When is flow rate testing indicated?

Flow rate testing is performed to objectively assess the urine flow when there is difficulties passing urine. It is also used to monitor the success of medical and surgical treatments. It may indicate whether there is a blockage to urination.

How is flow rate testing performed?

You will need to arrive at the test with a comfortably full bladder. You will be asked to urinate into a special urinal, make sure you pee completely into the urinal. A ultrasound bladder scan will be performed after urinating to see how much urine is left in the bladder.
